Last night as I lay in my bed in Hostel Don Sancho, Buenos Aires, I looked out the open window as the radio in the courtyard blared "Late Night Buenos Aires," Argeninian electronica. It was 2:30 am. The heat had finally faded with the sun and all that was left was the cool breeze which wafted through the window bringing with it my thoughts of the day...a day full of chaos. Here, south of the equator, everything felt a bit updside down. My head ached from speaking all that Spanish and as I moved through the chaos, there was nothing I could do but practice all the lessons the 5 Rhythms have taught me over the years...go with the flow, used staccato when needed, ride the chaos, rejoice in the beauty of it all, and always, always find time to be still and go inside. Because, no matter how hard I tried, my finger could not reach up into the heavens and make the stars of Orion´s belt point the "right" direction. I just had to accept that the stars that have so often been my guide, like many of the guideposts I use at home, are not available here. I have to rely on my own internal center.
So, I was grateful for Kelly Danza´s 5Rhythms class where my daughter and I spent the end of our day. We let all the poverty we had witnessed, the visions of the mothers of Plaza de Mayo, marching for their disappeared children, our feelings of extreme privilege for our wealth, and our disappointment in our government´s impact on this country, move through us. Kelly helped us find our feet, our bellies, hips, elbows, hands, heads and hearts. My dance was intense, but as I moved in and out of partnership with all the Argentine souls, I felt deep gratitude. The 5 Rhythms is alive and moving here. And, there is joy. We danced and danced, and after class, in what is obviously the ritual here, we all had a cup of tea together.
Before I left, I snapped a photo of those of us that were still left. So... hello Olympia tribe, hello world, from all the feet, knees, hips, bellies, elbows, hands, shoulders, spines, heads, and hearts here in Buenos Aires.
We love you!
