Lyrical Heron

Is there anything more grandly lyrical than a Great Blue Heron flying low and majestic right over your head?

I once floated down the Wynooche river in a tube accompanied by a heron. The river is surrounded and held by trees with umbrella branches over the water. It is peaceful and dark and private with the smells of low-lying water, moss, and decaying forest.

As I floated along a majestic Great Blue Heron would fly low passing me a short ways and landing at the edge in a tree or in the water. As I floated closer he would take flight and circle around me, pass my by, and land again to wait for me to catch up. Sometimes he would stay perched resting until I passed by and it would be a game of leap frog. We did this for many miles. It was a glorious dance with the divine, and an afternoon that lives on and on.

In light and ecstasy...yummmmmmmmm

What a rare and wonderful gift to be received into the wings of the heron, while floating on the breast of the river. The Wynoochee sounds enchanting, I hope I may make its aquaintance someday!
