Service

Recently I realized the underlying reason for wanting to guide others in moving meditation practice. I want to facilitate movement. In moving more on the dance floor I have experienced more movement in my life, my relationships... More movement in my feet, more movement in my hips and more movement in my emotions. I want to share this movement with others.

When I first started I THOUGHT I moved a great deal. In fact, I'd traveled to great distances such as Botswana, Zimbabwe, Greece, Beijing, Spain....but on the dance floor I traveled home. HOME. IN and OUT. I found myself. I became centered. And then I extended myself out to another, and another. I moved from my core connected to all before me, all around me, and all to be.

Facilitating others to move more is a guiding light for me. It holds all of the other things I wish for such as "stomping out illusion by continually dancing" and connection. If I am a part of the motion I am alive. Everything that separates me vanishes. Remembering this guiding light is an anchor for me, holding me steady and true to the simple reason I serve...motion.

My gifts are simply what I bring that day to the dance, what I have to offer...my vulnerability, my mothering energy, my calmness, my own two eyes drinking you in, trust...

Serve and Remember
Love...Forgive...Love
These are the words of our elders.

Funny I woke wanting to write about service today as well. In my early adult life, I lived service. I stayed at home with my children and that allowed me flexibility to give to my community.

I served on a board helping to guide decisions for adults with developmental disabilities - - this allowed motion in their lives. It allowed greater freedom. I served producing events for our youth -- again allowing motion in their lives. Helping them see choices beyond what they believed possible. I served as soccer coach, again, helping youth engage motion and possibility in their lives.

I haven't served with any great intention or for any significant amount of time since I started working 10 years ago until the last couple of years. But, the yearning to serve even more, with more intention knaws at me each day. The motion, freedom, and breath I have received through dance are gifts to be freely given away to mankind, to our collective humanity. In essence it is the next step past personal healing...we must give some away, and spread hope and love. Julie, thanks for posting. I agree with how movement affects lives. And, even more I love your reflection of you drinking in. Your eyes do drink in when you are in service. It's beautiful to be held in such nurturing love.
